One Italian Sandwich Too Many

I had a very very fruitful trip to Milan!

However, I had way too many Ham & Cheese sandwiches on this trip. How many? We shall count along the way as I tell the story of my journey across Italy.

So anyway…

I was lucky to meet a fellow, “VeryOnztoSightsee” kaki. :) She had already planned her trip to numerous places and I was just the idiot who followed her around. Heheh…

We touched down in Milan in the morning, threw our luggage into the hotel room, packed an overnight bag and were on our way to Turin within the hour!

So there we were, two sleepy girls snoring on the train to Turin. And that’s where I had Ham&CheeseSandwich No. 1. *yum*

We got to Turin and walked around town, joined in the tour of the Palazzo Reale and gaped at how the royals lived. You wouldn’t believe the detail that went into each painting or piece of furniture. And honestly, I couldn’t help thinking of women in billowing gowns and men in tights having kinky sex… I think I’ve read one too many historical romances….. *slap head* ;p (Look, I’m just being HONEST.)

We were dead tired by 6pm and started to hunt for a small hotel to stay the night. Finally found a good deal at a little hotel called Hotel Bologna. I was in bed and snoring by 8pm.

Up bright and early the next morning at 6am to conquer the rest of Turin (and here I had Ham&CheeseSandwich No.2 *still yum*) and to head down to Asti, a wine region famous for their Muscato and Barbera wines.

Was pleased to find out they were having the week-long Douja d'Or wine exhibition going on in Asti, so we happily joined in their wine tasting events!

Back to Milan on Day Two. Had Ham&CheeseSandwich No.3 on the train.

Finally arrived at 11pm. Up next morning at 3:30am for work. Bleah. Had SandwichesNo.4&No.5 on the plane. *gaack*

Day Four and we were off by 5:45am to Valle d’Aosta – to Courmayeur (at the French border) to see the Mont blanc and then to Breuil-Cervinia (at the Swiss border) to see the Matterhorn!

It was such an adventure, the sights, the sounds, the people, struggling to figure out everything in Italian…. But it was all worth it.

There were a million things that happened, but I can’t write it all out. You all would just die from boredom.

But I admit though, there were tears in my eyes as I gazed upon the snow-capped mountains, to see the waterfalls and rushing streams, to just hear the cowbells clanging away.

I’m such a sucker.

Oh. And I had Sandwich No.6 on the train back.

*BuUUaakK*

Sorry. *wipe mouth*

Day One - Turin
Torino - Host of the 2006 Winter Olympics

The Palazzo Madama

The opulence of the Palazzo Reale - Royal Palace of the House of Savoy

At the Palantine Towers - one of the best preserved Roman remains in Northern Italy.

Hotel Bologna - Our humble home for a night. Can you tell how paranoid we were? We decided to leave a chair at the front door, JUST in case someone tried to enter our room. Hahahaha...
.
Up bright and early, catching the sunrise over the Po River

See what we found! Kao Lak! (Chestnuts) Uncle, can help me fry? ;p

Waaat? I can't heaaarrr yooouu?

Being silly in Turin (Whats new?)

The amazing Shroud of Turin. I cannot believe I didn't realise the Shroud would be housed here. I mean, DUH. It's the Shroud of TURIN dammit. But seriously, I was so humbled to be able to be in it's presense. I had some items blessed by the priest and he gave me a blessing too. I swear my hair all stood on end. Im just a good Catholic girl at the end of the day you know...

Day Two - Asti
I'm in Asti! :)

First stop in Asti and after much looking coz it was highly recommended in the guide book... LUNCH AT IL CONVIVIO. We had lovely personalised service. :)

Now, according to the restaurant owner, the REAL way to eat bread, is with olive oil, TWO drops of red vinegar (not balsamico-its nonsense, according to him) and a sprinkle of salt. YUMMY!

It was a Friday, so the Italians usually forgo meat. So I had octopus with polenta (ignore my fuck face), and to finish off.. Tiramisu!!!

The interior of the Cattedrale di Santa Maria Assunta. Stunning.

The Torre Troyana - Helluva long climb up! (like I didn't have enuf of climbing stairs at the Arc du Triomphe!)

Giselle and I Sampling wine at the top of the tower. *slluurrp* *gargle* It was seriously good wine. What was the term they used? Not too.. "engaging". (How pretentious.. Whahaa)

Day Four - Off to Valle d'Aosta!
Yes, the two intrepid travellers are off again! :)

The town we went to was so ulu that the train that runs there is only two carriages long and runs on diesel like a bus! So cute. :) And how sweet are their little train stations?

Lookie! Mont Blanc! *whips out pen* Ok.. tats lame. ;p

*sings* She'll be coming round the mountain here she comeess.... *toot!toot!* ;)

Of course there's always time for risotto and TIRAMISU!!!!

The lovely quaint town of Courmayuer.

At another super ulu train station and it was SO WINDY there. I remarked to Giselle, "What's the next worse thing to being cold and hungry? Cold and URGENT." Wahahaha... ;p

Sitting, waiting, wishing, hoping... for the bus to come soon!
.

The lovely views as we drove up to Cervinia

The cloudy peaks of the Matterhorn. But still a breathtaking sight.

MY MOUNTAINS! :)

Yes, this is the sixth and last sandwich I will be having for a long while.
.
My Mum looked at me yesterday and remarked, "You lost weight ah?"
.
I DID??!!!
.
Maybe the sandwiches were worth it. ;p

I was recounting to my Mum this incident which happened during work the other day...

Man: So, you excercise alot?

Man: Must be you don't eat lah!

Me: No... I eat alot.

Man: Then? Tell me your secret....

Me: Erm... I'm lucky I guess. I thank my mum for her good genes.

Man: Wah.. then give me some of your genes leh.

Me: *at loss for words* Er.. Blue Jeans I can give u lah.

Man: *gives me wierd look*

Me: *pats man's shoulder and walks away giggling*

__________

So my Mum, the Queen of Corny Jokes exclaims, "That is SO Corny and Lame!"

Laughter Is The Best Medicine

I spotted this joke in this month's Reader's Digest. (My FAV magazine!)

I didn't get it at first coz I didn't read the punchline carefully...

But when I got it, I swear I couldnt stop laughing. :)

The fact that I would actually bother to cut it out and scan it into my comp shows how much I REALLY like it. Hahaha....

Enjoy! ;)
